Day 11

Conservation

Discussion in groups: (15 min)

  • How can you save water at home?
  • How can you help your family keep from wasting water?
  • What water wasting is going on at school and how can it be prevented?
  • What can your class do to help your community become better conservers of water?

Have students identify ways to save water (examples provided below) (15 min)

  • Make sure no faucets are leaking
  • Keep showers to five minutes
  • Turn off the water while brushing teeth or washing hands
  • Use dishwashers and clothes washers for full loads only
  • Use a broom to sweep your driveway, garage or sidewalk instead of water
  • Use a bucket of water to wash your car
  • Be careful to water lawn only, not sidewalk or street
  • Water your lawn at night or in the early morning only
  • Use water only when you need it and always turn it off when you are finished

Have students make a poster for each of the above ideas (30 min)

Homework

  • As a home project, have students log their water patterns at home (Appendix 15)
  • Revisit in 5 days time.
