Conservation
Discussion in groups: (15 min)
- How can you save water at home?
- How can you help your family keep from wasting water?
- What water wasting is going on at school and how can it be prevented?
- What can your class do to help your community become better conservers
of water?
Have students identify ways to save water (examples provided below)
(15 min)
- Make sure no faucets are leaking
- Keep showers to five minutes
- Turn off the water while brushing teeth or washing hands
- Use dishwashers and clothes washers for full loads only
- Use a broom to sweep your driveway, garage or sidewalk instead
of water
- Use a bucket of water to wash your car
- Be careful to water lawn only, not sidewalk or street
- Water your lawn at night or in the early morning only
- Use water only when you need it and always turn it off when you
are finished
Have students make a poster for each of the above ideas (30 min)
Homework
- As a home project, have students log their water patterns at home
(Appendix 15)
- Revisit in 5 days time.
