H2O Chelsea’s Water Resource Mapping Portal initiative confirmed $31,980 in funding from Natural Resources Canada’s GeoConnections program. The funding will allow the project to develop an Internet-based data management software that will permit Internet visitors (researchers, residents and municipal and provincial planners etc.) to access, map and graph H2O Chelsea’s lake, stream and well monitoring data online.
The Water Resource Mapping Portal will build upon the GeoConnections funded Watersheds InfoXchange system (WIX ) produced by the Centre for Sustainable Watersheds. New features will include: a bilingual interface, the ability to upload and download large quantities of data in CSV format, the ability to graph and compare data from several sampling sites simultaneously and the ability to map confidential well data in a manner that protects the privacy of individual well owners.
The Water Resource Mapping Portal will be one of many resources made available to communities who choose to adopt H2O Chelsea’s Water Monitoring Program Kits. As more communities input their data to the Mapping Portal, the database will expand, permitting visitors to access and compare water quality and quantity data of participating communities fropm across the country.
The Mapping Portal will be completed in mid-April 2007.
H2O Chelsea would like to thank Natural Resources Canada’s GeoConnections program for their generous support.
